New Web Server to Replace the VAX
During the Summer of 2000, the University of Hartford
installed a new e-mail/web system to take over these functions
which were hosted on the VAX (uhavax) system. During the Fall
2000 semester, the e-mail function was migrated to the new system.
At the end of the Spring 2001 semester, all web pages currently
residing on the VAX will be (automatically) moved to the new web
server by Information Technology Services (ITS.) This process,
which will start on May 19th, may take several days to complete.
NOTES:
- You do not
have to do anything
now.
- Instructors teaching web page creation in their
classes should continue to instruct students on the VAX
web server through the end of the Spring semester.
- You should mark your calendar to test your web
pages for proper operation on or after May 21st.
- There are some differences in the way the new web
server operates as compared to the existing VAX server, especially
with fill-out-forms
and web page counters.
ITS will make these changes to your web pages (except for
the fill-out-forms) as they are copied to the new server
starting May 19th. However, you must read the document
entitled Differences
between the VAX and the new web server so that you will understand the
differences and know how to make and change web pages
going forward.
- University
departments that have web pages on the VAX are
responsible for checking their pages for proper operation
after the migration.
