Criteria for the Award:
1.
Student(s) must be in good academic standing
(3.0 or above).
2.
Student(s) must propose an original scholarly
or creative project that examines the intersection of Judaism and/or
Jewish culture with that of another religious faith, race, culture,
ethnic group, or academic discipline.

This project must be proposed in a
well-articulated statement of no more than two pages which describes
(1) why the student, or group of students, wants to undertake this
project, (2) the exact nature of the project (including a timetable for
its completion), and (3) what use will be made of the scholarship funds
(a detailed budget including research costs, purchase of materials
necessary for performance, travel/living expenses, etc. must be
submitted as part of the application.).

This project must be publicly
presented, preferably at the Undergraduate Research and Creativity
Colloquium (in April of every year). The performance/presentation must
occur no later than 2 semesters after the receipt of the award.

Grants ranging from $100 to $2,500 will
be awarded. Multiple awards may be made.
Examples of possible projects: a
student might explore the roots of Jewish music, travel to Eastern
Europe or Israel to do research, and then present a concert that
illustrated the fruits of the research. A drama student might present a
one-woman show about aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict based on
research and travel. A student might create a photo exhibit that
explores the lasting impact of some aspect of Jewish culture on Spanish
culture.
3.
Proposals will be judged by an
interdisciplinary committee of faculty in terms of the originality,
quality, and feasibility of the project.
4.
Proposals should include a letter of
recommendation from a faculty member who knows the student’s work
and with whom the student has spoken about the project.
5.
Proposal Deadline: November 15 (for a project
to be undertaken in the spring term) or April 15 (for a project to be
undertaken in the fall term).
