Scholarship and Awards for Graduating Seniors to Study Abroad
 
John G. Martin Scholarship:

The Martin Scholarship program sends one University of Hartford graduate to Hertford College of Oxford University. There will be no competition in 2009 for the 2010-2011 academic year. The next competition deadline will be November 1, 2010 for the 2011-2012 academic year. The finalists are chosen by a University Committee. Oxford Undergraduate and Graduate bulletins are also available at the Auerbach Computer Center 330 to help you decide which program you might like to pursue. Rhodes Scholarship (Visit Website)

The Rhodes is a highly competitive scholarship to Oxford University. The University must endorse all applicants to Rhodes. Completed applications must be submitted no later than October 1 to Chuck Colarulli, Associate Provost. Office: CC330. Email: Colarulli. Campus Phone: 768-4696.

Davies-Jackson Scholarship (Visit Website)

Davies-Jackson is a scholarship to Cambridge in the following fields: archaeology, anthropology, classics, economics, English, geography, history, art history, modern and medieval languages, music, philosophy, or social and political science. The deadline for this program is November. An applicant applies directly to the Davies-Jackson Scholarship Committee. For information and application, please visit their website.

Fulbright Student Scholarships (Visit Website)

The Fulbright Program, administered by the U.S,. Department of State, funds graduate study abroad for graduating college seniors, young professionals, and artists. The program, which operates in 140 countries worldwide, allows applicants to plan their own programs while abroad. You must be a US citizen to apply. Proposed programs might include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in music conservatories or art schools, special projects in the social or life sciences. Applicants need to be aware of the particular requirements for participation in the countries in which they are interested. The Fulbright website lists country specifications and describes the application process in detail. Applications must be submitted to Sarah Reuter, the on-campus Fulbright representative, by mid-October. The final university nominees are chosen by a university committee.

Marshall Scholarships (Visit Website)

Scholarships for two years of graduate study in Britain. Applicants must be US citizens and have completed a four-year degree from a US institution with a GPA of at least 3.7. Scholarships cover university fees, cost of living, airfare, etc. Interested students should contact the Marshall campus representative, Dean David Goldenberg (768-4055), for further information.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship

The US-Ireland Alliance sponsors competitive, national scholarship for graduate study by American citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 at institutions of higher learning on the island of Ireland. Named to honor the former U.S. Senator's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, the George J. Mitchell Scholarships are intended to familiarize and connect the next generation of American leadership with the island of Ireland. These Scholarships support one year of graduate study in any discipline offered at an institution of higher learning in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Scholars must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program offered at the institution. The Mitchell Scholarship provides tuition, housing, a living expenses stipend, and international travel. Normally, 12 Scholarships are awarded each year. Mitchell Scholars must exhibit superior levels of academic achievement, leadership and community service.
