CETA - Engineering

Eligibility

First-semester freshmen are eligible to participate in the CETA Honors Program if they were (a) awarded a University of Hartford President’s or Regents’ Scholarship or (b) designated as eligible to participate upon admission to the University.

Transfer students should consult with the CETA Honors Coordinator to determine their eligibility.

All other students who have a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 overall are eligible to participate in the program.

CETA Requirements for the Honors Degree (Engineering)

For an engineering student enrolled in the CETA, the requirements below must be met to complete the University Honors program and earn the designation of University Honors on the diploma:

An Engineering Honors Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.0 in Honors course work.

An Engineering Honors Student must have at least 18 credits of Honors work, including:

2 credits of Freshman Honors Seminar, ES 116 and ES 117 (1 credit each)

6 credits of Honors sections of Humanities/Social Science courses and/or Honors section of All-University Curriculum (AUC) courses

6 credits of “Contract Honors” in Engineering courses

3 credits of upper-level independent study and research projects (including the University Scholar Program) and participation in the College’s Engineering Applications Center projects.

1 credit in an Engineering course or Independent Study

Suggested Timetable

Freshman Year: Take ES 116 and ES 117, the Freshman Honors Seminar (1 credit each) and one or two Honors sections of Humanities/Social Science or AUC courses (3-6 credits).

Sophomore Year:
Take one or two Honors sections of Humanities/Social Science or AUC courses (3-6 credits). Take one “Contract Honors” course in your major (3 credits).

Junior Year: Take one “Contract Honors” course in your major (3 credits). In the spring, decide if you want to do a University Scholar project or an independent project. Select a topic and find a faculty member who will direct your project.

Senior Year: Begin and complete the independent project (3-6 credits).

Total: 18 credits

CETA - Technology Students

Eligibility

First-semester freshmen are eligible to participate in the Technology Honors Program if they were (a) awarded a University of Hartford President’s or Regents’ Scholarship or (b) designated as eligible to participate upon admission to the University. They may continue in the program if they have maintained an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.0 based on the completion of 15 credits in a CETA program.

Transfer students should consult with the CETA Honors Coordinator to determine their eligibility.

All other students who have a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 overall and a 3.25 in their major are eligible to participate in the program.

CETA Requirements for the Honors Degree (Technology)

For a technology student enrolled in CETA, the requirements below must be met to complete the University Honors program and earn the designation of University Honors on the diploma:

A Technology Honors Student must have an overall G of 3.0, a 3.25 in the major, and a 3.0 in Honors course work.

A Technology Honors Student must have at least 18 credits of Honors work, including:

6 credits of Honors sections of All-University Curriculum courses.

6 credits of Honors courses or “Contract Honors” courses at the 200 level or above that are part of the student’s major.

6 credits of senior-level independent study courses such as the senior project course and/or the University Scholar program.

Sophomore Year:
Take one Honors section of AUC courses (3 credits) and one “Contract Honors” course in your major (3 credits).
