2. Introduction to 'Save the Zoo'

There is a zoo, called City Zoo, in a city with a Mayor who loves animals as much as she loves her city and the people who live there. In fact, she worked to be elected Mayor of that city because of City Zoo. However, while she was doing her job as Mayor she became so busy that she didn't have time to visit the zoo! She didn't even have time to make sure the zoo was doing the best that it could to take care of its animals that she loves as much as she loves her city and the people who live there.

Soon, the Mayor realized that she had to make time in her busy day to visit City Zoo because she was worried. She was getting many letters, phone calls, and emails from visitors to the zoo complaining that the animals of City Zoo looked sick and unhappy in their zoo homes. The Mayor, who loves animals as much as she loves her city and the people who live there, finally made the time to visit City Zoo. What she saw made her very sad! Her beloved animals were indeed unhappy and unhealthy.

The Mayor could not imagine a zoo in which animals were unhappy and unhealthy! Although she loves animals (as much as she loves her city and the people who live there), the Mayor made an announcement that unless improvements are made, City Zoo will be closed and the animals will be shipped to a zoo in another city far away!

WAT: What's so great about a zoo, anyway?
GEM: Write a story about the Mayor and her love of animals!
