A
sociology major provides students with an in-depth understanding of the social
causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociology is useful to students interested
in a wide variety of careers ranging from business and industry to law, government
and human services. The department encourages students to combine their academic
programs with future career interests through participation in individually
designed internships. Through its Center for Social Research and Certificate
Program in Applied Social Research, the department also provides opportunities
for hands-on research experiences. These experiences help students to begin
careers in public and private organizations that engage in survey research,
needs assessments, evaluation studies and market research
