  Professionalism is important. Research has shown that people form an impression of you in 3 – 5 seconds. Learn the importance of dressing professionally, minding your manners regarding voice mails, e-mails, and dining and “the good, the bad, and the ugly” of social networking sites. An excellent overview of how to make a great impression in many common technological and social situations!
     
Alexander Cabal, Area Coordinator, Wesleyan University Generation....what?! GSU ***
  As a student leader, you will have to interact, get to know and work with different types of people. From advisors to faculty and even your own peers, understanding who they are is as important as the work you do with them. Each individual belongs to a generation that has their own beliefs, values and characteristics. Can you identify? Do you know where you stand? This presentation will give you an overall understanding about each generation while helping you understand your own.

  Sometimes we get so busy and stressed we only focus on our immediate needs or the goal at hand. We often forget about the impact we may have on our community as a whole. Come and explore resources and community organizations that will help you to utilize and develop leadership skills. Let’s brainstorm ideas to help you become a leader within the Greater Hartford community.

Leadership on and off the court GSU ***
  Having a great work ethic, being a good teammate, and knowing how to motivate others are all essential qualities to becoming a great leader. We teach our athletes that the lessons they learn in sports can be applied to all other aspects in life. Through competition, they will learn that it's easy to be a good leader when everything is going your way. Great leaders are effective when there are obstacles that need to be overcome.

Jonathan Connary, Area Coordinator, Wesleyan University Coming out as a LGBT Ally: Being OUT & Proud GSU ***
 

Participants will get to experience the effect of their leadership decisions on others. They will learn how best to solicit and receive feedback from diverse constituents.

Do you know what LGBT stands for? As a student leader you will interact with a diverse group of individuals. The key to be an effective leader is learning and understanding those individuals in order to build successful working relationships. This workshop will provide insight on how to be an Ally of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community. Through developing knowledge of common definitions and Ally development you will walk away from this workshop with a better understanding of LGBT issues and helpful resources to continuing one’s education surrounding this community.

  The Student Government Association's mission is to actively represent the undergraduate student body here at the University of Hartford. Come to our session to learn how we enhance students’ collegiate career and promote the image of the student body. This session is helpful to both seasoned leaders looking for more information as well as future leaders looking to get involved.
     
Felecia Bumpus, Associate Director of Student Centers & Activities The Many Faces of Leadership GSU ***
  This session will allow the participants to self disclose about the many faces of leadership we encounter each and every day. They will learn how to face challenges as a student leader, gaining understanding that help and assistance can be found in some uncommon places. Leadership cannot be defined by the position you hold but rather by the convictions you have as a leader. Participants will learn that it is important that they believe in themselves as leaders before their followers will believe in them. “The Many Faces of Leadership” will help each participant to explore the diversity of leadership. “In complete darkness we are all the same. This session will address the various ways to market your event on and off campus. Whether you have a budget or instead need to get creative without spending a cent, you'll learn about valuable tools and strategies for event promotion.

  Participants will experience and discuss two of the most common barriers to effective small group communication. As a result participants will be able to better manage small group communication and help their groups be more effective.

  Men’s Basketball Head Coach Leibovitz speaks to the importance of mentors in the lives of leaders. This is an interactive session that explores leadership qualities in students and effective leadership styles. Discussion of leadership challenges on and off the basketball court, dealing with adversity and leading to win. Team up with Coach Leibovitz!
