How do I access the Electronic Course Reserve?

To access the electronic course reserve (ECR) at the Mortensen Library you will need two things. First, you will need a University of Hartford (UH) email account. Secondly, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have it on your computer you can download it at the UH Download Depot site http://itsweb.hartford.edu/download_depot/download_depot.html or at the Adobe Web site http://www.adobe.com

You will use your UH email account and password to log on to the ECR. Go to the ECR start page at http://library.hartford.edu/llr/courrese.htm Next, click on the appropriate semester (for example Summer 2002).

On the next page that appears use the "Select Instructor(s)" drop down menu at the top of the page to locate the instructor teaching your course. Once you have selected the instructor, click on the "Submit" button.

You should now be on that instructor's page with the courses listed for which the instructor has placed material in the ECR. Click on the appropriate course.

You will now be on a page that lists all of the articles for that course. Click on the article you wish to view/read.

You will now be taken to the logon page. Type in the user name that you use for your UH email accout and below that type in the password for your UH email account. Now click on the "Submit Query" button and you should see the article being opened in your computer using Adobe Acrobat.

What is APA format? What are the rules that I have to follow for writing my paper?

APA is the acronym for the American Psychological Association. They have just published the 5th edition of their Publications manual. This manual is quite extensive and costs about $35 if you purchase it. However, there are numerous WWW sites that have abridged instructions for using APA style.

For this course you need to make sure that your citations and references are in the proper format. The best site that I have found with abridged APA format instuctions is at Purdue University. Go to the following URL to read/download these instructions: http://owl.english.,purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_apa.html
