What to Leave at Home
The following items are prohibited in residential areas (list is not all inclusive):
- Pets (other than fish)
- Bed risers, cinderblocks, or lofts
- Extension cords
- Power strips that are not UL approved
- Multi-plug adapters for outlets
- Appliances or items with frayed electrical cords
- Items hanging from sprinkler heads
- Ceiling hangings and overhead decorations
- Waste baskets larger than 13 gallons
- Halogen lamps, oil lamps, lava lamps, paper lanterns and paper lamps
- String lights (including holiday lights)
- Candles, including those displayed as decoration. Exceptions are NOT made for religious practices – we encourage the use of electric candles for these purposes.
- Incense
- Electric air fresheners, potpourri burners, oil warmers, and tart(fragrance) warmers
- Open coil heating devices, including toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, George Foreman grills, and electric skillets (except in Village and Park River kitchens)
- Oil-based popcorn poppers
- Air conditioners, unless approved by the Assistant Vice President for Student Health and Wellness for documented medical reasons
- Dishwashers (other than those provided by the University)
- Flammable liquids, including, but not limited to charcoal, gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid, art supplies such as paint thinner, oil based paint or any other combustible or explosive chemicals
- Charcoal grills and gas, butane, or propane grills or stoves
- Gasoline-powered machines
- Fireworks
- Ammunition
- Weapons, including firearms, hunting bows, and knives
- Weights for body building or other large exercise equipment
- Hookahs
- Fog machines
- Space heaters (except those issued by the university)
- Live trees (including holiday trees)
