Room
Changes
The Office of Residential Life tries to provide
housing to any and all students who wish to live on campus. Most times an open and honest conversation about what is
bothering each individual is sufficient to overcome roommate problems.
Sometimes a simple but detailed roommate
agreement, an agreement which all residents choose to live by,
can settle disputes residents have with each other. The Office of
Residential Life prides itself on our flexible room change policy;
however, there is a procedure that must be followed to ensure accuracy
of records and the security of the living spaces involved.
Room Change Procedures
All students interested in room changes have to meet with their Resident Director, who can be found by clicking here.
Approved Room Changes
Once a room change has been approved, the change
should be completed within one week unless an extension period is
approved by the Area Coordinator or Resident Director. Residents
are asked to make arrangements with their new roommate or apartment
mates to gain access to their new rooms (except in the case of complex
singles). Once all of a resident's belongings have been moved into
the new space, the resident must return the old room key and pick
up a new room key at the Office of Residential Life. Students may
keep both sets of keys until move is completed then return old room
keys.
If it is difficult to gain access into the new
building or room, Residential Life staff can sign out a room key
to the resident who is moving into the new space before the old
room key is returned. This procedure must be approved by the Area
Coordinator, and the student must be willing to sign a billing notice
charging him or her the fee for a lock change should the key to
the old room not be returned in a timely fashion. This form is destroyed
once the key to the former room is returned.
Residential Life staff will activate or de-activate
access as appropriate.
Important--Please Note!
The University of Hartford has a special keying
system which prevents the duplication of its keys. For this reason,
lock changes are extremely expensive, and result in a normal lock
change fee of $150 (for Regents Park and the Village Apartments) and $120 (for the Complexes, Park River Apartments and Asylum Avenue Campus) for each lock which must be changed!
