Mary Bankhead, M.S.
Assistant Director for First Year Experience

Hello!  My name is Mary L. Bankhead and I am the Assistant Director for First Year Experience.  In this role, I am responsible for the overall functioning and operation of the University of Hartford's First Year Experience residential program, specifically A-F Complexes and the Asylum Avenue Campus.  I work collaboratively with the Complex Directors and Resident Directors to ensure the on-campus living environment is welcoming, safe, conducive to learning, personal growth, developing friendships, supportive and encouraging, and fun.

Prior to coming to the University of Hartford, I worked as a Resident Director at the University of Alaska Fairbanks for two years and the Coordinator for Residence Life for the Upward Bound Classic Summer Residential Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks three summers.   I also served as a Residence Hall Manager at the Galena Interior Learning Academy, a regional, secondary and post-secondary public boarding school in rural Alaska.  I earned my bachelor's degree in Graphic Design (Art History and Spanish minors) in 2001 from Indiana State University and my master's degree in College Student Affairs from Eastern Illinois University in 2003.  Outside of work, I enjoy making abstract art, taking in foreign films, and volunteering.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Residential Life team and anticipate the year ahead!
