Eligibility Requirements and Suggested Curriculum

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants to the Pre-Osteopathic articulation between the University of Hartford and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) must demonstrate an outstanding academic potential, maturity and, motivation for the pursuit of osteopathic medical studies. Acceptance to the program will normally require a student to:

  • Maintain at least a "B" average during their first three years of high school.
  • Rank in the upper twenty percent of their high-school class.
  • Obtain a combined score of at least 1000 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
To be eligible for admission to the UNECOM D.O. program, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Send a letter of intent to UNECOM upon matriculation at the University of Hartford.
  • Complete ninety (90) credits of course work including the necessary prerequisites by the end of the third year at the University of Hartford.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 overall with a minimum grade of "C" in all required courses.
  • Satisfactory performance on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and any ohter examinations required by UNECOM.
  • Submit an application for admission to UNECOM at the end of the second year of pre-professional study at the University of Hartford.
  • Obtain a recommendation for admissions to UNECOM from the University of Hartford Premedical Professions Advisory Committee.
  • Complete a satisfactory interview with the Admissions Committee at UNECOM and participate in any orientation programs required by UNECOM.

Year IV

Attendance at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, ME.

Pre-professional students must send a letter of intention to the Office of Admission at the appropriate school upon matriculation at the University of Hartford. Students are expected to complete at least ninty (90) credits at the University and maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average (3.40 for optometry) overall, with a minimum grade of "C" in all required courses. Admission to the professional school is contingent on the student's successful completion of all prerequisite courses and all application procedures of the professional school, which may include an interview with the Admissions Committee of that school.
