Eligibility Requirements and Suggested Curriculum

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants to the Pre-Optometry articulation between the University of Hartford
and the New England College of Optometry must be outstanding students with a strong, realistic motivation towards the optometric profession. Acceptance to the program will normally require a student to:
- Maintain at least a "B" average during their first three years of high school.
- Rank in the upper ten percent of their high-school class.
- Obtain a combined score of at least 1100 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

To be eligible for admission to the New England College of Optometry (NEWENCO) O.D. program, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Send a letter of intent to NEWENCO upon matriculation at the University of Hartford.
- Complete ninety (90) credits of course work by the end of
the third year at the University of Hartford.
- Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 overall with a
minimum grade of "C" in all required courses.
- Submit an application for admission to NEWENCO at the beginning
of the final year of pre-professional study at the University of Hartford.
- Satisfactory performance on the Optometry Admissions Test
(OAT).
- Obtain a recommendation for admissions to NEWENCO from the health-science, pre-optometry advisor and/or a letter of recommendation from the University of Hartford Premedical Professions Advisory Committee.
- Complete all application procedures, including a satisfactory interview with the Admissions Committee at NEWENCO.

Pre-professional
students must send a letter of intention to the Office of Admission at the
appropriate school upon matriculation at the University of Hartford. Students are
expected to complete at least ninty (90) credits at the University and maintain at least
a 3.25 grade point average (3.40 for optometry) overall, with a minimum grade of
"C" in all required courses. Admission to the professional school is
contingent on the student's successful completion of all prerequisite courses
and all application procedures of the professional school, which may include an
interview with the Admissions Committee of that school.
