This essay competition is intended to honor those who risked their lives to hide or save victims of political persecution or genocide.
The essay can be on either theoretical or applied ethics and should philosophically examine an ethical problem or theoretical perspective. the essay need not be directly concerned with the issues of political persecution or genocide; it may address any issue of moral significance. its length should be a minimum of 2,000 words, with a maximum of 5,000 words.
Essays should be submitted to Dr. Marcia Moen of the philosophy Department (Auerbach 212C). They will be read and evaluated by members of the department. Essays are due by April 26th and the winners will be announced on may 3rd. First prize will be $100 an second prize will be $50. The winners will be recognized at an appropriate public ceremony.
