- - 4 cups sifted flour
- - ½ sugar
- - 1 teaspoon powdered gingered (I always use more)
- - ½ teaspoon salt (optional)
- - ½ cup butter
- - ½ cup lard
Cut butter and lard into flour mixture until it looks like cornmeal
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon hot water
Mix well into flour mixture, add molasses and water
Roll 1/8 inch thinness or roll into balls. Then roll into sugar.
Bake 350 degrees for 5 to 7 minutes.
This recipe is a very old one that my family has been making for a few centuries.
