College of Arts and Sciences Department of Modern Languages and Cultures
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is situated in the heart of the College of Arts and Sciences and is comprised of four principal programs:Italian, French, Spanish and German. The department offers also courses in Elementary Japanese. Each of the principal programs constitutes a comprehensive entity, offering courses at various levels starting from introductory language and leading to advanced literature, civilization and cultural studies courses. All classes in the department are conducted in the target language with the exception of the capstone courses, unless otherwise indicated. The Department of Modern Languages offers flexible Major and Minor options which enable students to select any one of the four languages as their primary area of concentration, or to combine two or more of them. The department is also proud to sponsor various Study Abroad programs in several countries. Indeed, study abroad is an integral part of the department's commitment to offer students a well-rounded and meaningful educational experience. For this reason, study abroad is fully integrated in the major curricular requirements.
