I am in the process of collecting descriptions for the senior projects this spring semester.
Metal Surface Roughness Probe - Jun Kondo
The Engineering Applications Center (EAC) has developed a non-contact in-process surface roughness inspection probe. It is small, low cost, and has high accuracy and flexibility. The current system requires a PC or laptop and is bulky and expensive. This project involves the design of a small portable display module for the surface roughness probe. The Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA board using the Microblaze soft core microprocessor and a custom designed adapter board will be used for the hardware.
Solar Powered Digital Fish Scale -
Padriac White
Steven Secondo
The students involved in this project are avid fishermen. This project involves using a load cell along with appropriate analog signal conditioning, to determine weight of attached fish. The microprocessor being used is a PIC and is used to display the weight onto a liquid crystal display. This entire circuit will be powered entirely with solar energy.
