Schedule for Programs and Events for Fall 2009

 

The International Center and the University of Hartford offer its international students a variety of opportunities to immerse themselves in American culture, to explore their environment, learn something new, or just have fun.

 

August 30, 2009  The International Student Orientation Program for newly arrived International Students will be held in the Gengras Student Union, Rooms WCC, from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All new students are required to attend. Following the program, a shuttle bus will take students to a shopping mall.  

 

September 11, 2009  In honor of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the International Center will sponsor an "Iftar."  Student of all faiths are welcome to join President Harrison and the staff of the International Center for an evening dinner. You must reserve your seat.

 

September 12, 2009  The International Center will sponsor the "Dragons" Intramural Outdoor Soccer Team, winner of 9 out of the last 11 titles. There are several positions open for the Fall team and anyone interested in trying out is welcome to participate. Please contact Richard Lazzerini at the Center. Even if you don't make the "Dragons" squad, you are welcome to practice with us and have some fun or try out for other intramural teams. 

 

September 26, 2009  Spend the day at the largest amusement park in New England. Enjoy the rides and fun at Six Flags Amusement Park in Springfield, Mass. (just $20 covers the cost of entry and transportation)

 

October 17, 2009 Explore New York City! Discover the diversity and culture that make New York City one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the world. This is not a guided tour - you can do as you please and explore whatever suits your fancy. Leave from Lincoln Theater at 8:30 a.m. and return to the University at 8:00 p.m.  All students and friends are invited. $20 per person. 

 

October 31, 2009 Spend an afternoon climbing Talcott Mountain in Simsbury (it's an easy climb to the top!)...Enjoy the traditional change of color in the scenery of Connecticut. Bring a friend...bring some food...and enjoy a day outdoors!

 

November 12, 2009  Celebrate the American tradition of Thanksgiving.  Join University faculty and staff at our International Thanksgiving Luncheon.  Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the 1877 Club. You must reserve your seat.

January 28, 2010 Looking for a job or an internship? Come to our Practical Training Workshop and equip yourself with the knowledge you’ll need for an effective job search. Get the answers to your questions about Practical Training, the “Gap Program”, STEM, H-1B procedures and more. The workshop will be held in GSU 345 at 12:00pm-1:00pm.  

 

February 20, 2010 Come and spend the day in the sun and snow at Ski Sundown. Join with International Center staff and your friends for a fun day of skiing and snow boarding. You don't have to be an expert to have some fun!! First timers can have a ball. Sign-up in advance for this fun-time!!  

 

March 6, 2010 Join us for the Center's biggest event of the year, our International Festival 2009. Come celebrate an evening of international cultural diversity. If you like to taste food from around the world, then this is the place to be, featuring ethnic cuisines from over 10 countries. Bring your friends, bring your favorite faculty member and dress up in the traditional clothes of your home country! The price is right for this fun night at $10.00 for students and $13 for non-students. GSU - north/south cafeteria - Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with food and the show begins at 6:00 p.m. Tickets available at the International Center or at the door.  Seating is limited so get your tickets early!  

 

April 3 2010  Explore Boston ! Discover the diversity and culture that makes Boston one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the East. This is not a guided tour - you can do as you please and explore what ever suits your fancy. Leave from Lincoln Theatre at 8:30 a.m. and return to the University at 8:00 p.m. Tickets available at the International Center . All students and friends are welcome. $20 per person.  

 

May 4, 2010  Join us for the end of year Pizza Social Hour. As the semester is about to finish, and final exams are on the doorstep, nothing is more needed than just an hour of relaxing and chilling with friends and faculty at the International Center . Enjoy the free lunch and cool drinks among good company! 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
