"'You Saved My Life,' He Says..."
Yeah, not a lot of blogging lately. I could blame Facebook, since I now check it fifty times a day and try to think up catchy status lines. But, actually, it's because I'm too much in the multi-tasking mindset. My mind shifts around too much and can never really focus enough to compose a coherent entry. I'd love write an entry like Ron does, but it doesn't seem natural to me. He does it, it flows. I do it, Da Man calls a psychiatrist to diagnose schizophrenia.

I'm working on administrative issues like scheduling. I'm not a natural administrator, but I'm trying. I'm doing more with research than I have been lately, getting ideas flowing but not getting them down like I'd like, not turning them into prose. Teaching is flowing along. I sent emails today and last week to students in danger of failing because I hate for grades to be a surprise to anyone, especially if they do fail. I learned that the hard way a few semesters ago when one student had her parents email me to find out what happened. Sure, 80% of the class being an F and 20% being a B- should not have led to a surprise, but it was. Now, I try to give some heads up notice.

I taught Richard Siken's poetry this week in gay/lesbian lit. I wasn't sure how it would go. I never know how poetry will go. But they really responded well and had some great insights. I'd reprint a poem, but it would be too hard to get the line spacing. Just check out "Wishbone," the first poem we read out loud in class and discussed. Intense and beautiful.

Da Man says he won't do The Amazing Race with me because of the heights. He suggested BBM, who told me he'd only do it if he didn't have to do heights. And these are the uber-masculine guys in my life who roll their eyes when they hear the Britney CD in my car. C'mon, people! I wanna race around the world.
