"Listmaker, Listmaker, Make Me a List..."
Susan asks, Susan gets! She wanted to see a photo of the GTD pages I described in my last entry. Now, I took this with the built-in Macbook camera, which flips the photo. so you can't read the writing, but you get the gist of it.

In the top corner, you can see in orange that I wrote "office," the GTD context. The context is the "place" where you do the work; my contexts are email, computer, office, home, errands, agendas, and calls. On that page, I have listed things I need to do that I can only do in the office. They are written in different colors, just for the fun of it. I cross them out with a squiggly line. Under that notebook is the one I use for projects lists and the GTD book itself.

So far, this is working for me. I love the GTD philosophy of getting it all out of the head and onto the page, and creating separate pages for the different contexts is a great idea. When I'm in the office, I check the office list first, then I check the computer list and email list because those are the longest. I work steadily, and I feel like I've gotten a lot done since I started this in the last few weeks. I like this because the daily to-do list doesn't work for me. I can't decide what needs to get done in a day before the day begins. This way, I write down the things that need to get done but that don't need to get done now.

And Allen is right about the process of emptying the mind opening up the mind to other things. I notice other ideas flowing. I notice that I can focus more. When I'm done with office work and I turn to my research, I feel like my mind is tuned a bit better than it was two months ago. So, this is cool for me.

An anal-retentive, Virgo's dream!
