"Get to Know Your Rabbit..."
Tonight was the last night of my argumentation course, and we played Balderdash. It's the game where you are given a word, person, film title, acronym, or law, and you have to write a definition or description that other players will believe is the real one. If other players guess your fake one, you get points. If you guess the real one, you also get points. It turned out to be pretty fun. They really did come up with descriptions that were believable and showed some real thinking. For example, when they had to come up with a description for the film Eat My Dust, which I saw in theatres, they had some great answers like "a film where a girl gets dumped by her boyfriend, so she steals his car for revenge" or " a group of desperate housewives get out of the house to start a vacuum cleaning service."

I learned last year that having all of my classes turn in their final essays on the last day of class is not the smartest move to make. I felt a bit stressed trying to balance getting things done in time while giving things the attention they deserved. So, I had this class turn in their essays last week. So, what to do today that would be relevant and not feel like a waste of time? A game based on creating believable arguments. Did they learn a lot? Probably not. But it was a good way to wrap up the course that wasn't boring, routine, or completely pointless.

It was goofy and it was fun, but it was also a good way to spend the last night after a long semester.
