"Full-Time Motherhood? How Selfish..."
I am so excited. In my Introduction to Gender Studies course, I am having my students write opinion pieces at the end of each unit. The point is to connect something in the unit to a recent news article. Today, one of my students had the first essay she wrote for me published in the Hartford Courant. It really is a great essay, and I couldn't think of why they would not publish it, especially since they have a section each Saturday for a column by someone under thirty. I think her essay will definitely incite discussion. I know some readers who will not be thrilled by its message (the title is the title of this post), but I also think she makes some good points, and the writing itself is top notch. I really do want my students engaging with and writing for the public sphere, so I'm thrilled that this is out there to show all my students that this is possible and that what we are doing in class is about something.
