"Wake Me Up When September Ends..."
I think I'm completely done with one class prep for the start of things this week. Of course, it's the class I'm teaching for the fourth time, and I'm pretty much going to follow what I did last year. Things fell into place on the schedule rather easily, which is a good feeling, seems portentous of positive things to come. I even found a couple of days when I can go back to NYU and peruse the Wojnarowicz archives again. That will be in November, and I'm imagining the fall in the city like last year.

The fall has always been my favorite season. I love when the weather starts to get chilly and the leaves begin to turn. Skeletal trees empty of anything don't interest me, but just before they get that way, when the leaves are there but looking completely different than they have all year, things are beautiful. I love being able to wear long-sleeved shirts without sweating or freezing, maybe get my jacket on in the morning. I love when the night creeps in earlier and earlier, even if I'm sick of the dark by January.

My plan is to get another course done tomorrow and the third on Monday. Classes start for me on Wednesday, though I already have a meeting on Tuesday, so I'll be in then. And my honors composition course is paired with an interdisciplinary technology course, meaning we have the same students and will make use of each other's books and assignments. The technology course meets on Tuesday, and I'll join them then.

At the moment, I'm feeling good about the semester. I'm not feeling anxious, nor am I ecstatic. I'm just glad things are started and feel like they are starting as they should. As a graduate student, it felt like the stakes were higher when things began. I had limited time to get things right and get things. Now, this is my career, and I'm slowly starting to settle down about the whole process.
