Pre-Dental Health Science
What You Will Do
Doctors of Dental Surgery provide family-orientated dental care in a private
practice setting. Dentists function as general practioners, treating patients
in the areas of prosthodontic, periodontic, and restorative dentistry,
and contribute to the development of dental knowledge through research.
Where You Will Study
A combined B.S./D.D.S. program between the University of Hartford and the
NYU College of Dentistry provides a unique opportunity for students with
career goals in dentistry. Initial study at the University of Hartford
allows the student to complete the general education liberal arts requirements
of the College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions as well as
the basic sciences required for the B.S. in Health Science degree. Four
years at the NYU College of Dentistry prepare the graduate for a career
in Dentistry. This program typically allows for the completion of the Bachelor
of Science and Doctor of Dental Sergery degrees in a seven year period.
Admissions
The combined program is for the academically outstanding student with a
strong realistic motivation towards the dentistry profession. All aplicants
are interviewd by representatives from both institutions, and up to five
are accepted annually. Students admitted into the program are expected
to maintain a 3.25 overall grade-point average during their matriculation
at the University of Hartford with a minimum grade of "C" in all requred
courses.
Final admission to the NYU College
of Dentistry is contingent upon successful completion of required program
course work, satisfactory Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) scores, and the recommendation
of the University of Hartford's Pre-Professional Advisory Committee.
