David Singer (Emeritus)
Professor of Clinical Psychology. Dr. Singer was the director of the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology from 1993-2003. Between 1977 and 1993 he was at Antioch/New England Graduate School, where he served initially as director of the Masters Program in Counseling Psychology and then founding director of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Prior to that he had been on the clinical psychology faculty of Columbia University’s Teachers College and Duke University. Dr. Singer earned his B.A. at Brooklyn College (1957) and the M.S. (1959) and Ph.D. (1964) in clinical psychology at Yale, after which he spent a year as a post-doctoral fellow in child-clinical psychology at the Judge Baker Center and Children’s Hospital sites of Harvard’s Department of Psychiatry. A licensed psychologist in CT and NY, Dr. Singer has maintained a small private practice of individual, group and couples therapy, as well as organizational consultation, throughout his career. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Psychology, a fellow of the A. K. Rice Institute, the New Hampshire Psychological Association, and the Connecticut Psychological Association as well as a past-president of the New Hampshire Psychological Association and the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology. For over 30 years, Dr. Singer has been interested in groups and group therapy and the organizational and adult developmental aspects of clinical training—areas in which he has published numerous papers and books.
