Alice W. Cheng
Dr. Cheng joined the GIPP faculty in the fall of 2011. She
received her doctoral degree from the University of Rhode Island in
2011. Her dissertation explored the influences of racial identity and
color-blindness on memories of racial stereotypes.
Professional
Interests:
Orientation
use: multicultural, interpersonal, family systems, motivational
interviewing, cognitive-behavior and integrated therapies.
Population
interests: ethnic minority, immigrant, Asian-American, underserved,
low-income, urban and in diverse settings.
Area
of research interests: ethnic minority mental health disparity,
Asian-American mental health, alcohol and substance use disorders,
culturally
adapted interventions, diagnostic issues in ethnic minority,
experiences of
minority therapist (training, supervision, therapy dynamic,
professional
development), multicultural competency, racial microaggression
(implicit
racism), color-blind racism, childhood abuse/trauma, and adult
attachment
styles.
