Universal Transverse Mercator - UTM
- Coordinate origin for each zone, Northings
- For Southern Hemisphere zero northing is the South Pole.
- For Northern Hemisphere, zero northing is the equator.
- Northings range from 0 to 10,000,000 meters, (1/4 of the circumference of the earth).
- Because of distortions at the poles, it is customary not to use UTM beyond 84 Degrees north, and 80 Degrees south.
