The formula team at Hartford has been active for more than a decade, and continues to be a strong program for those interested in automotive engineering at the university. While Hartford doesn't currently offer automotive engineering as a major it is looking to start a program in the future and Hartford Motorsports is a good starting point for the program.

Every year a committed group of team members spend countless hours, nights, and weekends getting the car built and ready in time not only for certain deadlines but for competition in the spring. The car is designed and built from scratch each year and requires countless parts some of which the team machines from solid materials.

The team is housed off campus in a small space owned by United Tool & Die, a local manufacturing plant and a major sponsor and a helpful friend to the team. With the help of professional machinists and welders the team homes their skills taking advice and helpful hints. With the knowledge and hints from the professionals the team then independently makes our own parts that go into the car.
