Position Numbers and
Class Codes
Position numbers are unique to a specific fund or org, sub account and class code combination. If you change any one or more of these three variables, the position number will be different. The most common types of class codes are:
T1 Temporary staff to be paid a lump sum or a series of payments
T2 Temporary staff to be paid from a time sheet (should not exceed 600 hours per year)
T3 Temporary student to be paid from a time sheet (cannot exceed 20 hours per week while school is in session)
T4 Temporary student to be paid a lump sum or a series of payments
S1 Graduate Assistant to be paid a lump sum or a series of payments (Graduate Assistant is defined as a graduate student working for a professor doing assignments such as but not limited to: grading papers, proctoring an exam, doing research etc )
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are paying someone correctly by assigning the correct class code. Please be sure to verify student status before assigning the class code. Once you determine the class code, then you must identify the correct labor distribution, which is a specific fund or org and sub account. Each class code has several sub accounts that can be used:
T1
55100 Administrative Professional PT
55300 Special Projects
T2
55600 Specialist/Technical PT
56100 Office/Clerical PT
T3

58000 Student PT
T4

S1
