Faculty FAQ for Blackboard

Below are listed some common Blackboard questions and their answers. If you desire additional Blackboard assistance please check the "Looking for more help?" section for Blackboard instructions or information on how to contact the Faculty Center for Learning Development.
Q: Why can't my students see my course?
A: You may need to make your course available (visible to students). To make a course available, go to the Control Panel, click on Settings and then click on Course Availability. Set Make Course Available to Yes and save. Your students will now be available to access your course from their Blackboard Home Page.

Q: Why can't I see the courses I'm teaching?
A: You must be registered as the instructor for the course on Banner in order to see it on Blackboard. For help with this, please contact the Registrar's Office at (860) 768-4999.
Q: How do my students get enrolled in my Blackboard course?
A: Once students are formally registered they will be automatically enrolled in your Blackboard course via information from The Self-Service Center (Banner). Student registrations may take up to 24 hours to appear on your Blackboard course roster. Faculty should avoid manually adding students to Blackboard courses as it interferes with the automated enrollment process.
Q: A student is registered for my course but cannot see it in Blackboard.
A: Student registrations may take up to 24 hours to appear on your Blackboard course roster. If the student has been registered for more than 24 hours and does not appear on your Banner course roster, have the student contact ITS at (860) 768-5999.
Q: How can I copy course content from previous semesters into my current Blackboard course?
A: Start in the old course, go to the Control Panel and use Course Copy under the Course Options area to copy to the current course. You can also use this procedure to copy content from one course to another in the same semester.

Q: I teach multiple sections of the same course; how do I combine them into a single course on Blackboard?
A: You can request multiple sections (including cross-listings) to be combined by filling out the form found here. You will receive a confirmation email when the process is complete.
Q: My student was disconnected from Blackboard while taking a test and can no longer access the test. What do I do?
A: You may need to clear the student's attempt on the test. Contact FCLD to resolve the issue.
Q: What is the Sandbox course on my Blackboard Home Page?
A: Every instructor at the University of Hartford has a private, empty course in which to test Blackboard features. Your Sandbox course is independent of all enrollments and cannot be viewed by anyone but you.
