Discussion Boards and Forums

Online discussions are a public forum area within each course. Students and instructors hold ongoing discussions by ‘posting’ written messages about a given discussion topic or essential question. Discussion boards can be used for sharing assignments, posting final projects, critiquing, or general discussion. Some of the benefits of online discussion include student reflection prior to response, a safer communication arena for shy students or ESL students, continuance of face-to-face classroom discussion, and a place for more informal discussion and sharing.
