Trash - Residents are responsible for removing trash from their rooms suites and apartments.  Trash bags should be placed inside of dumpsters provided in each residential area.  Custodians do not remove trash from individual rooms or apartments.  Bags of trash SHOULD NOT be placed in small litter receptacles found at various locations around campus.

Cleaning - In the Complex buildings, custodial staff members enter each suite weekly to perform a fill cleaning of the bathroom areas.  In all other buildings, the common areas (including stairwells, hallways, common bathrooms, lobbies) are cleaned daily.  If a particular need exists outside of the normal schedule, residents should contact our office and a staff member will be dispatched to handle the situation.

Windows/Screens - Screens should remain in windows at all times.  This includes the tamper-resistant screens on the first floor windows of Regents Park, Park River and the Village Apartments.  If a screen is missing due to high wind or misuse, a request should be made for a replacement to be installed.

Lights and Light Bulbs - Light bulbs needing to be changed should be reported to our office with as much detail about the location as possible.  The Resident Facility Assistant staff responds to each light bulb call when they report for duty each day.  It is important to note that sometimes, the lighting issue is not the bulb.   In this case, the RFA will report a follow-up need to the Electrical Department.  An Electrician will then respond to correct the issue.

Shut Off ValveLeaks and Flowing Water - When there is an overflow or a leak that has the potential to cause damage or to flow to lower or adjacent living spaces, residents should act quickly.  A call should immediately be made to get service personnel mobilized to the area.  Second, an attempt should be made to stop the water from flowing.  Check under sinks and toilets for a small shut off valve (like the one pictured to the left) and turn it counter-clockwise to stop the flow.  Next, work to minimize the flow of water on the floor by placing towels or other absorbant items.  Your neighbors will thank you for your quick action!

Making a Request - Check this page for a guide to typical requests and how to plan for Facilities Department services.  Check the page carefully as many campus services are not handled by Facilities.

Vandalism and Billing - Students are charged for work necessary because of vandalism and mis-behavior.  In addition, damage beyond normal wear and tear will be charged to occupants of a particular living area.  Check The Source for guidelines on how this process works.  Billing is generated through the Office of Residential Life and related questions should be directed there.

Caring for your Space - Residents have a responsiblity to care for their living space during their occupancy.  Vaccuming, cleaning the bathrooms/kitchens and regularly removing trash are the responsiblity of all the occupants.  Not only is it courteous to maintain your space, it is also much healthier.  This link will give some tips on cleaning and over all care for your new living area.

Safety and Security - For the safety of ALL resident students, do not prop doors or window screens and do not let people you do not know into your building.  Check out the Department of Public Safety website for information on how to maintain a safe and secure community.

My Space - Refer to the Office of Residential Life website for information on room dimensions and building styles.

Contact Public Safety at 768-7985 (768-7777 emergency) for assistance when the office is closed.
