NOTE FROM FACULTY SENATE:

Bent & Trachtenberg awardS deadline extended to: February 22, 2008

To:                   University of Hartford Faculty and Collegiate Deans

From:               Ingrid Russell, Chair, Bent/Larsen/Trachtenberg Awards Committee

Subject:            Calls for Nominations:  Bent and Trachtenberg Awards DEADLINES EXTENDED TO FEB. 22, 2008

Date:                February 5, 2008

So far this year, multiple nominations were received for the Larsen Award, consequently, no additional Larsen nominations will be excepted. However, as none were received for the Bent or the Trachtenberg Awards, the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate has extended the deadline to February 22, 2008.  Please alert the Senate Office (either by e-mail, facsenate@hartford.edu, or 768-4475) if you are in the process of completing a nomination packet and require some assistance.

The Bent, Larsen, Trachtenberg Awards are among the most prestigious awards given to faculty by the University and as such reflect the contributions made by exceptional individuals from the various colleges that make up the University of Hartford. The three Awards are intended to honor full-time University of Hartford faculty members at Commencement each year. Each award recipient will receive an honorarium of $1,000, a University medal and citation, and recognition in the Commencement Program.

Please take a few minutes on receipt of this memorandum to read all the way through. To be eligible for one of the awards, the nominee must be a faculty member who has been awarded tenure or a faculty member on an Extended Temporary Contract who has been through a tenure-like review. Faculty members who were nominated in previous years may be re-nominated. A new nomination, complete with all supporting materials, must be submitted by the due date.

Nominations may come from a Dean, Department Chair, colleagues or self. While it is feasible for a single individual to nominate and organize the necessary supporting materials for a nominee, a small group of individuals who support the same nominee may work together in the collection and presentation of supporting materials. Criteria for each award and a description of requested supporting documents are attached and are also available at the Faculty Senate website http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/facsenate/.

Nominators are encouraged to submit a complete set of materials for each nominee. Packets will be submitted to the Committee exactly as they are received. For all awards, letters from nominators should clearly describe the most significant accomplishments of the nominee as related to the specific award criteria.

Nomination forms are attached to this memorandum.  All materials for each of the three two awards should be hand delivered to the Faculty Senate Office, CC 314 (Attention: B/L/T Committee), by 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2008  February 22, 2008. There will be a sign-in sheet at the Office to log in completed application packets.  Please call the Faculty Senate Office, x4475, or email facsenate@hartford.edu if we can be of assistance.

We look forward to receiving your nominations. Thank you.
