With seven distinctive schools and colleges, the University of Hartford is a private university with a public purpose. Located on a 340-acre campus in suburban West Hartford, the University offers faculty and students easy access to the Greater Hartford Region , as well as to nationally recognized teaching and research facilities in Boston and New York . The University has 325 full-time and 400 part-time faculty members and enrolls 5,600 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students. The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions has 1250 students: 800 undergraduates and 450 graduates. Throughout our programs, the college is committed to preparing professionals who understand the community context of their professions and the public relevance of their work. This commitment fosters an emphasis on personal, professional and civic development. Our faculty and our academic programs have deep ties to the surrounding community, and our students participate in a wide range of service-learning, practicum, internship, and clinical opportunities in those communities throughout their programs. We also have several formal partnerships that foster connections between all our departments and the community. These partnerships include Educational Main Street, a partnership devoted to helping urban children remain in school through post-secondary education; Project Horizon, a program devoted to serving and advocating for the most vulnerable urban populations; The University of Hartford Magnet School, a pre-K – 5 school located on campus and modeled on Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory; the University High School for Science and Engineering, a magnet early college program; and University Physical Therapy, a full service clinic located on campus and serving the public.
