Scholarship Award Announcement

The Emeriti Association of the University of Hartford announces that an award which commenced in 2006-07 has been renewed.   The award is endowed by the membership of the Emeriti Association which consists primarily of retired University of Hartford faculty. The 2010 award of $500 will be awarded in the spring 2009 semester, for academic year 2010.  The award is to be given annually to a University of Hartford undergraduate student based on the following criteria:

a)      The student is selected based on scholarly achievement as an undergraduate in any of the colleges at the University of Hartford for at least one semester.  A student’s Grade Point Average of at least 3.25 is the minimum expected for consideration by the selection committee.

b)      Applicants should be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year as full-time students in the Fall 2009 semester.  A successful applicant may seek renewal of the prize for one or more years, provided all the criteria for eligibility, stated above, are satisfied.  Every effort will be made to rotate the award among the various colleges of the University of Hartford on an annual basis.

c)      Preference will be given to the applicants who have shown a commitment to extra-curricular activities at the University of Hartford or in the community at large.

The award is being promoted through the Office of Student Services in each of the colleges of the University.  The award for the 2010 academic year will be announced in May 2009 once all applications have been submitted, and the selection committee’s decision has been ratified by the full membership at its spring meeting.

To apply for the award, students must submit an application to Walter Banzhaf, the Executive Secretary of the Emeriti Association, outlining their qualifications for consideration.  The application shall consist of:

·         a letter of application

·         a resume

·         two letters of recommendation from the applicant’s advisor or other faculty members

A committee consisting of three emeriti faculty members, appointed by the chairman of the Emeriti Association, shall evaluate all applications and recommend one or more students to the Emeriti Association for the award.  The committee represents a diversity of faculty disciplines.  The Emeriti Association shall ratify the selection at its annual spring meeting.
