enhance the education and college experience of University of
Hartford undergraduates.
Tutoring Program - Level:
College Students
A
weekly service/learning program that offers opportunities for
students to work as individual or small-group tutors in the EMS-sponsored
after-school or school-day programs conducted at the seven partner
schools. Undergraduates receive training, field placements, a
tutor newsletter, evaluations, recommendations, course credit,
scholarships, awards, and receive work-study money for their tutoring.
Mentors - Level: College
Students
Undergraduates
can as mentors/role models assist EMS partner school students
to stay in school and prepare for post-secondary education through
activities including Shadowing Days, EMS Summer Academy, EMS Academy,
and E-Mentoring.
Tutor Coordinators/Job
Opportunities - Level: College Students
During
the academic year, Educational Main Street provides to eleven
undergraduates work experience as tutor coordinators and EMS office
staff. Coordinators assist tutors in training, placement and retention.
Tutor Talk
Newsletter - Level: Tutors
A
newsletter written each semester by tutor coordinators for tutors
that highlights and recognizes the tutors' work in the partner
schools.
