EDT 664 Syllabus

Course Description
Students will develop expertise with integrating technology in the mathematics curriculum for grades 3-8, using the NCTM Standards and the Connecticut State Frameworks as guides. Students will be introduced to a variety of Internet and software resources appropriate for intermediate and middle school students, learn to evaluate and use these materials to stimulate and strengthen mathematical understanding. During this course students will:

review, evaluate, and utilize mathematical teacher and student resources on the Internet;

evaluate and use a variety of software appropriate to the intermediate and middle school math curriculum;

read, reflect on and review relevant articles from professional journals;

reflect on how the integration of technology can enhance the mathematics classroom;

demonstrate knowledge of ethical and legal issues of the use of computers and technology; and

develop plans for utilizing technology to stimulate and increase mathematical understanding.
