Is the ownership of a water buffalo or a llama in your future? It is if you are a member of the University of Hartford’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Each spring PRSSA holds a fund raiser for Heifer International as part of our event planning and outreach activities. Other events include the annual Netiquette Dinner that coaches you on how to be interviewed while dining out, and partnering with other student organizations to raise money for Habitat for Humanity and FoodShare, the local food bank.
In addition to philanthropic activities, PRSSA members focus on professional development. Local public relations professionals conduct workshops on topics such as sports public relations, crisis communications, event planning, and other relevant topics. Each spring the members take a road trip to New York or Boston to visit public relations agencies and firms. In addition to these trips, each autumn PRSSA board members attend the national conference to network with other students and professionals in locations like Miami, Philadelphia and Salt Lake City.
The University of Hartford’s PRSSA organization is open to all students, regardless of their major, and reinforces key strategies for successfully navigating the professional world. For more information, contact Dr. Susan Grantham, PRSSA faculty advisor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
