Program Overview

The Master of Arts requires 33 credit hours with a 3.0 (B) grade point average or better, plus the completion of a thesis or written comprehensive exam. Students writing a thesis complete 9 courses and enroll for 6 thesis credits, as they conduct their research. Students choosing the comprehensive exam complete 11 courses and write the exam.

Our graduate classes typically have 10 to 20 students, just the right size for dynamic class discussions and active learning through projects and presentations. They also are sized right for close relationships between faculty and students. Faculty can get to know you and offer more personal and individualized instruction. Conveniently scheduled in the evenings, our classes have a rich mixture of traditional full-time graduate students and working professionals taking a class or two each term. Our students come from a broad range of backgrounds.

Our tuition rates are very competitive with other public and private institutions in the region. We also offer financial assistance to some of our students through teaching internships.

We also offer the Accelerated Master of Arts in Communication, a program in which a University of Hartford student completes both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communication in five years. The program is designed for exceptional undergraduate students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and who know in their junior year that they wish to pursue a Master’s degree.
