Course Requirements
Class meetings will in large part determine the success of the class. Typical sessions will combine lecture and discussion. Students, therefore, should attend class regularly, hold a clear grasp of the readings, and be eager to discuss the assigned topic. We also spend five days analyzing cases. Finally, while discussion of politics will almost certainly lead to disagreements, students will be expected to treat each other and the instructor with respect at all times. Final grades for the course will be determined by evaluation of five assignments:
Class Participation 10% Midterm 25% Policy Paper 25% Case Paper
(1 of 5)15% Final Exam 25% Note on Academic Integrity
All work that students perform in this course must be their own. Students are also advised to read "the source" with regard to academic honesty. All papers must be properly cited. Students caught cheating will automatically fail the course. Whenever you use outside sources of information in your research, you must cite your sources properly. All papers submitted in this course should employ the American Political Science Association citation method as outlined in the Style Manual for Political Science. Papers submitted without complete citations will not be graded.
Note: Written assignments are due in class. Extensions are given only in extreme circumstances (in other words almost never).
Late Policy: Late work will be penalized 1/3 of one letter grade per day. After 10 days students receive a grade of zero. Note that students receiving a zero on any assignment will almost certainly fail the course. Finally, note there is no extra credit in this course.
Attendance: Attendance is fully expected in this course. Students missing more than 3 times unexcused will find it very difficult to do well
