Experiential Learning is learning by doing. It gives you direct contact with the realities of the workplace, and for many industries, it has become a REQUIRED part of the educational experience.

Included under the umbrella of "Experiential Learning" are Experiential Education or Co-op's, Internships, Summer Jobs and Community Service. Each can be a work experience that complements your academic training and gives you an introduction to a specific career or field of interest.

Experiential Education allows you to put your academic training to practical use and involve duties similar to those of an entry-level position. It can offer you the opportunity to:

  • Explore and clarify your major and career goals with professionals in the field, so you'll know if the field is right for you - increase your self-knowledge.
  • Develop knowledge, competencies, and experiences related to your major and career goals.
  • Gain practical employment experience that employers look for when hiring college graduates:
    • solve complex problems
    • communicate effectively
    • function comfortably in teams
    • work productively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and create a more rewarding college experience.
  • Achieve confidence and a smoother transition to permanent employment - develop professional work habits.
