Dave studied with Ron Borror from 1980 until 1984 at the North Carolina School for the Arts and is currently living in Olney, Maryland with his wife Dianne and two children Matthew age six and daughter Allison age four.  Dave has performed with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Roy Clark, Rosemary Clooney, Joe Williams and was a member of The Washington Redskins Professional Band.

After graduation in 1984, he traveled the U.S. with a band called “The Spurrlows” as a Band Director and Trombonist. The band consisted of two trumpets, two trombones, rhythm section and eight vocalists.  In the fall of 1985, he moved back to the Washington, DC area and is currently working as freelance trombonist.

In 1995, Dave graduated from The Omega Studios’ School of the Recording Arts and Sciences with a Certificate in Audio Engineering. He became a staff-recording engineer at Omega Recording Studios in Rockville, Maryland in 1995.  He won a Grammy Certificate in 2000 for recording the Grammy award-winning album entitled “Christmas with Shirley Caesar” and has worked as an engineer. He has recording some of the areas finest trombonists at over the past seven years including, Harry Waters, Matt Niece, and Dave Steinmeyer.

He has performance credits on Walter Salb’s “Time Was Orchestra” CD recorded in 1993 and Radio King Orchestra’s “Put A Little Boogie in My Stocking” CD recorded in 2000.

Dave claims the highlight of career as a trombonist was “playing the sold out Aretha Franklin concert at Wolf Trap 2002 with Dave Steinmeyer playing the lead part.  Mr. Steinmeyer is a world class guy as well as a world class trombonist.”

In the fall of 2002, I started teaching piano and guitar at the local high school. He plans on going back to school to obtain a teaching certificate.  His goal is to develop a Music Technology curriculum on the high school level and work with the instrumental music department as a Band Director or Brass coach.

He is still actively playing as the trombonist for the band ”Invitation”.  He also enjoys playing solos on occasion for church worship services.
