A Message from Ron...

Spring ’08 greetings from Hartt. As we near the climax of another academic year, all the students in the studio are busy finalizing projects and papers, anticipating final exams and preparing for juries. This has been a busy semester beginning with our February Hartt Trombone Ensemble concert (works by Gabrieli, Cara, Schuetz, Rabe, Plog, Debussy, Berlioz, Bach, Brahms, Hendrix and Ward). Ron Edwards presented his very successful senior recital (Rabe, Basta; Bach, E-flat Suite; Leopold Mozart, Concertino for Alto Trombone; Stevens, Sonata and Milhaud, Concertino d’hiver) in March. The bands, contemporary players and Performance 20/20 have enjoyed exciting terms. The orchestra is in rehearsal for its final blow-out concert of the Mahler Symphony Nr. 3. Ron won the opportunity of playing the huge solo and sounds magnificent! Among other noteworthy events, Kevin has advanced to the finals of the Paranov Concerto Competition playing the Paul Creston, Fantasy and Matthew Russo won an appointment to the Performance 20/20 Honors Chamber Music Program. Peter has done wel l in auditions for bass trombone openings in the U.S. Marine and U.S. Coast Guard Bands. As happens every year, we must say good-bye to graduating trombonists to whom we have become very attached. Kevin and Ron are both off to do graduate study, having become formidable trombonist-musicians and leaving indelible impressions at Hartt. We wish them well!
