Sean MacDonald

Sean MacDonald began his trombone studies at the age of nine. His primary teachers have been Mr. Christopher Baird, Mr. Brian Kay, and Dr. Ronald Borror. He graduated in June 1999 from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Acton, Massachusetts. While in High School, He was selected to perform, both as a tenor in the chorus and trombonist in the band at the Massachusetts Northeastern Senior District Music Festival. Also while in high school, he was enrolled in the preparatory division at the New England Conservatory of Music. While there, he participated in their auditioned ensembles. He was bass trombonist of their Youth Symphony, a tenor in their Youth Chorale, and a trombonist with the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble. With these groups, he has toured Italy, Montreal and England. In April of 1999, Sean performed at Carnegie Hall with the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble. Also in 1999 he was a featured soloist at the Hatchell and at Jordan Hall in Boston with the Youth Chorale. With the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, Sean performed at Boston's Symphony Hall, and was awarded the John Phillip Sousa Award for outstanding contributions to a school music program.

Currently studying at the Harrt School, he is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Music Education, Instrumental Emphasis. He is a member of the Hartt Wind Ensemble, and has been a member of the Hartt Chorale. He toured Germany, Austria and Hungary in the summer of 2001 with the Chorale. He has also been a member of the concert jazz ensemble in the past. Sean is an active member of Hartt's chapter of the Music Educators National Conference, having served as secretary from 2000-2002. He also served as secretary of the Hartt Student Council for the 2001-2002 school year.

Sean is a re-chartering member and executive board secretary of the Zeta Omega Chapter of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Brass Ensemble and Senior Handbell Choir for 6 years. He also enjoys playing in the pit for musical productions. Sean has performed Bye-Bye Birdie, Crazy for You, West Side Story, Cabaret, Babes In Arms, Guys and Dolls, A Chorus Line, The King and I, and most recently, Titanic: The Musical. In October of 2001, Sean joined the Warner Theater Orchestra in Torrington, CT.

Sean looks forward to pursuing a career in teaching elementary music, and hopes to continue on to graduate studies in Trombone performance.
