The American Society of Civil Engineering, ASCE, is a world wide organization that represents civil engineers. Established in 1852, it is the oldest engineering society in the country, with its world headquarters located in Reston , Virginia . ASCE does not only allow communication between professionals but also to students who aspire to join the civil engineering field.

The University Of Hartford Chapter Of ASCE allows students to experience team work throughout the year as we hold events and fundraisers. The University Of Hartford Chapter Of ASCE encourages students of all majors to join and participate. Our main focus yearly is the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition, which is sponsored by ASCE. Each year a canoe is created out of concrete by following competition guidelines that are provided by ASCE. By conducting test in the fall, we are able to decide on an appropriate mix to use. In the spring, the competition is held at a selected school for the weekend. The competition requires a presentation about your schools canoe, and then a race.
