About
the Program
At the University of Hartford, you may prepare for admission
into schools of medicine by working toward either a bachelor
of arts or sciences degree with a major in any department.
Most medical programs require a minimum of one year of undergraduate
work in biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and
physics. You are encouraged to consult the catalogs of the
schools of your choice to determine specific requirements
and suggested courses. You are also urged to contact a faculty
member on the Premedical Professions Advisory Committee as
soon as possible after enrollment at the University of Hartford.
Participation in the University's Pre-Medical Advising Program
is a great way for highly motivated students to pursue the
path to post-graduate medical education. The Premedical Professions
Advisory Committee will provide support and guidance to you
in exploring your career goals and gaining acceptance into
the professional schools of your choice.
Pre-Med Advisory Committee
The committee offers three courses designed specifically
to guide you along your path to post-graduate medical education.
In Premedical Professions Studies I, you will examine the
health care team and the roles of various professions in health
and disease. You will develop a working understanding of the
education requirements and work environment for various medical
professions. In the second course of the series, you will
develop plans for service learning or research experiences
that will be completed in a subsequent semester. The roles
of professional medical organizations in health care are examined
along with a thorough review of the requirements and timetables
for professional school entrance. In the third premedical
professions studies course, you will plan your actual application
to medical school. You will determine your schools of interest
and their application processes, assess your abilities and
areas of strength and weakness, and start preparing for admission
tests and pre-admission interviews.
