Recognizing Excellence Among Graduate Students

Casey Nixon is among the seven recipients of the Regents' Honor Award for Graduate Students. See UNOTES Daily for the complete profile of recipients.

Casey Nixon
Master of Architecture
College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture
Faculty Advisor: Kendra Schank Smith

According to one architecture faculty member, Casey Nixon is the most talented student in her incoming class of 2004. The focus of her research reflects a sense of social responsibility. It concerns the construction of prefabricated structures, which often involves untrained volunteers. She has first-hand experience with such construction, having participated in building houses in the Appalachians, a hospital in the Dominican Republic, and an orphanage in Mexico. Nixon was invited to speak at architectural firms in Hartford and at the Center of Architecture in New York City. She was entrusted by the department to be the student representative for the most recent National Architectural Accreditation Board visit. Nixon received her undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech and will earn her Master of Architecture this month.
