How Cell Phone Transmission Works!

Wireless networks operate on a grid that divides cities or regions into smaller cells. One cell might cover a few city blocks or up to 250 square miles. Every cell uses a set of radio frequencies or channels to provide service in its specific area.  When you turn your phone on the phone sends a signol to the tower along with all its verification data including your phone number, this is basically "logging on" to the wireless network.

If your call is going to a landline phone the call may be routed from the tower to a landline and into the phone your calling.

If your calling another cell phone the tower may route the signol to that phones carrier who then dispatches it to a cell tower nearest the person your calling.  This enables you to get in contact with other cell phones world wide ( as long as that person has service)
