Oedipus Rex and Antigone
Before beginning a careful reading of Oedipus Rex (which will be eventually necessary for a complete understanding of the play), I urge you to visit two sites which both inform and entertain: Enjoying Oedipus Rexand The Classics Page. Enjoying Oedipus Rex is slightly off-beat with cynical and sarcastic overtones but, at the same time, filled with interesting connections re Sophocles and his plays. The Classics Page is simply amazing! It is thorough with excellent links and interactive elements -- certainly one of the best classical sites on the Net. Be sure to play the Oedipus and Antigone"Games" for a clever test of your understanding of these plays. Although there are dozens of informative easily-Googled sights related to the play and the larger myth, within these two sights lie about all one needs to know to intelligently analyze these two plays.
The Antigone questions and scene summaries should be particularly useful.
