Background Information:
I am a Professor and the Chair of the University of Hartford’s
Department of Educational Leadership, where much of my time is spent
supervising doctoral dissertations and teaching graduate courses in
professional ethics, introductory statistics, and qualitative research methods. I also teach an undergraduate leadership
course and undergraduate classes in American Studies (1865- present) in Hartford’s All University
Curriculum. Earlier in my career, I
conducted research in medical education and taught at the University
of Texas Medical Branch–Galveston, the
University of Iowa,
and East Tennessee State
University. I came to the University
of Hartford in 1991 as the dean of the
College of Education, Nursing and Health
Professions, serving in that capacity until1998. More recently, I was secretary, vice-chair and chair of the University of Hartford’s Faculty Senate (2005-2009).
Active among New England Friends (Quakers), I was twice
clerk of Hartford Monthly Meeting and sat on
the Board of Moses Brown School in Providence,
Rhode Island. I’m now a member of the Permanent Board of
New England Yearly Meeting, and since 2006 have maintained a weekly peace vigil
on the University
of Hartford campus. That
same year, several of my colleagues and I co-founded the Greater Hartford Peace Education
Consortium, which involves representatives from several local campuses in developing peace-related
curricula and conferences. Currently a member of Friends Association for Higher
Education’s Executive Committee, I’m also the founding and current editor of Quaker Higher Education, FAHE’s
on-line, scholarly publication. Please visit my blog: Transform the Military Budget (the link appears below) which is dedicated
to examining ways in which the United States’ defense budge can be reduced and
reinvested in critically necessary areas such as sustainability technologies
and urban education.
Diane Thistle Weinholtz – a science teacher and head of the
middle school at Watkinson

married since 1972. We have three grown
children, David, Philip and Jennifer; all of whom are visual artists involved
in education and human services professions. Our dog,Sophie, is a handful.
